Babe Ruth Centennial - The 60th Homer by Phil Heffernan

Babe Ruth Centennial - The 60th Homer by Phil Heffernan

SKU: p0653

Babe Ruth Centennial - -The 60th Homer- by Phil Heffernan -- First issuein the series. The Bradford Exchange 1994.

Early in the 1927 season, Babe Ruth made a vow. That year he would break a record few thought was breakable—his mark of 59 homers in a single season—and lead the Yanks to the World Series.

As the first-place Yankees returned home to face the Senators in the final two games of the season, they had long since clinched the pennant and proven themselves the greatest team of all time. Ruth was leading the major leagues in home runs again, but was one shot shy of hitting the magic 60 mark—and running out of time to do it.

When Babe stepped up to the plate in the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2, everyone in Yankee Stadium knew he'd be swinging for the fences.

Hard-throwing Senators' pitcher Tom Zachary blew the first pitch past Ruth for a strike. Babe laid off his second offering, a high fastball. Zachary's third pitch came in fast and low on the inside. Babe Ruth whipped his big bat around and crushed the ball, blasting it deep into the right field bleachers. History's most fabled home run record was his!

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
