The Little Fisherman
SKU: p1345
We had a stream running through Brookfield in Illinois, where I grew up. One of my favorite Saturday things to do was to go fishing. I'd get up early, dig some worms, grab my pole and head for the creek. So I really enjoyed painting "The Little Fisherman" because dozens of memories rushed through me as I moved my brushes over the canvas. I remembered the joy of sitting alone and waiting for a fish to come and bite on my line, how it felt to have the sunshine wash over me, how cool the stream felt, how alive the day was with birds calling and the wind in the trees. I also remembered the frustration when my line would get tangled, or my hook stuck on a stick in the water. That's why this little boy is right in the middle of a moment of confusion. How can he get that line untangled? And how did it get that way, anyway? He's in a setting even more wild than what I had in Brookfield. Here everything grows with abandon. He has thick willows, deep grass, tall trees and a wide river. He even has a log as tall as Paul Bunyan to sit on. While painting him I realized that some things, like little boys and fishing, will always be the same no matter how much the world changes. Colector price $49.95. Size 8.5 by 6.5 inches.
